The trouble with PR is that you essentially vote for a party, rather than an individual MP, so I don't know how they would allocate MPs to individual constituencies ?? AV has been criticised for electing the least objectional candidate as the MP - maybe this isn't such a bad thing ?? I'm still undecided which way to vote but am veering towards AV. I think most politicians go into the role with the best of intentions, but ultimately when you find out the financial state of the country, hard decisions have to be made, and policies fall by the wayside. He wanted macho Black, she wanted purple, son wanted Blue, daughter wanted pink. They couldn't agree on first preferences (FPTP system) - BUT they all quite liked green as second choice. So although it was no-ones first choice, they were all quite happy with a green eglu. (tried to do this with ranking / votes but difficult with low numbers) Just a thought, H. My worry is that by voting against AV it will be seen as a vote against any other voting system and so it will be years before anyone offers an alternative. If we vote for it then they'll say the public are obviously happy with AV so we won't need to introduce PR or change the system any further.... The media and the spin doctors are forever telling us what we think but "Ooops, word censored!"ody ever asks us what we actually think! The 3 countries that use it are not huge movers & shakers. The fact that we have a coalition government is more to do with the apathy of the voters & weak policies of the MP's than the voting system itself. It is this same system that has given this part of Cumbria Nick Griffin, a former national organiser of The National Front as one of our MEPs simply because so many put his name last and so few collectively put the name of a sensible candidate first.
