poorly hen

i'm assuming that fee is because it's a bank holiday or a weekend? My vet charges £18 for a consultation. I suggest you take her to the vet tomorrow as on a normal working day you shouldn't be charged anywhere near that!

yes went to the vet (just £37) gave her 3 injections calicium, anti biotic and somthing else. Thought there maybe a stuck shoft shell egg (?) between you and I, I think it was guessing and hitting everything with the three. Anyway she was back to normal in two days but no eggs for two weeks and the Vorwerk who is showing no signs of illness hasn't laid for a month!

Waitng for the flubavet to arrive to have a go at that.

Scrubed the patio in disenfectant and scattered bio dri over the WHOLE of the garden. Looked like a baker at the end of it!

THink these hens are sending me slowly mental!

Vet bob on!

Two days after injection hen back to normal.

Seven days later laid an egg that was surrounded with what looked like scrambled egg. Vet proven right unformed no shell egg caused an infection and was then pushed out by a formed egg.

Moral of the tale go to the vet and trust them.

It is strange that as soon as the good weather arrives they've stopped laying. The opposite of what I expected. My lay theory is that they're not bothering with the pellets but feasting on insects and grass and therefore missing out on the calcium.

Oyster shell put out, calcium supplement ordered.

The war against the unknown enemy continues.

Hen 1 laying daily no problem.

Hen 2 not layed for a month but showing no signs of illness. Slight messy bum.

Hen 3 hunches and looks ill just before passing a soft shell egg. Two on the run now. Also spotted red dots on her legs and slight messy bum.

Have disenfected everywhere. Poultry shield the house. Regular user of bio dri. dusted them for lice and red mite. Given them poultry spice in the feed, Calcium in the drink. Previous regular user of apple cider vinegar.

Used to give them and handul each of corn in the evening, now stopped this.

Waiting for flubavet to arrive.

What's going on with them?

are you feeding them layers mash/pellets?

just spotted your mention of red dots on the legs, have you checked all the nooks and crannies of the housing to check for red mite?

dodson & horrell layers pellets.

couldn't see any red mite but cleaned it down anyway and its an awkward house to have a good look at.

noticed house getting a bit mouldy on the inside and wood very much showing signs of being wethered, water blown in parts, does get a little damp by door in poor weather.

hmm maybe talking myself into a Go or classic with the s"Ooops, word censored!"page offer!

well, they do stop laying, look huddled and pale if you have an infestation of red mite, RM are tenacious, horrible things and this is the time of year when you're likely to get them.

give the girls a good spray with johnson's ant mite spray and make sure you get red mite powder in all the nooks and crannies of their house and sprinkle some in amongst their bedding.

thank you for Poet.

I have the feeling that this is going to be a recurring problem. Got a basic and cheap house of plywood. The weather has blown the ply in parts so there's loads of hiding places and it has a felt roof.

Going to start again and bought an Eglu go.

The s"Ooops, word censored!"page scheme came in very handy.

just so you know, you're not immune to red mite just because you have an eglu, we've just had a horrible infestation in our eglu, BUT the eglu is easyto strip down and clean.
