price for eggs

Recommended Posts

We've just been asked how much for our eggs which has started an argument between OH and me. what does everyone else sell there's for so I can get a rough price strategy?

I have no problem selling our eggs at my work, there's always something of a rush of people down the office as soon as my notification e-mail goes out . I ask for £1.50 for 6 eggs.

£1.40 for 6 eggs here. Used to be £1.20, but feed went up quite a bit in price so thought I'd put the price up. £1.50 seemed too much of a jump all in one go, but I think it's a fair price for 6 eggs and will probably hike it up to that next year (planning ahead here  ). £1.80ish for 6 FR eggs in the supermarket.

In the omlet boxes i sell them £1 for 4 so its £1.50 for 6 then.

In fact I was a bit cheeky the other week.. my mum and dad did a carboot so i took some excess along and put them in a nice basket and sold them there 4 for £1 with some nice blue eggs in too... the stall two stalls next to me was selling "barn eggs" 12 for £2 but i still managed to sell all mine.. so really people are willing to pay for them!

I think it depends were you live. We are Norfolk/Suffolk and so many people sell eggs our way we sell 6 bantam for 50p and 6 full size for 70p. We have set our price the same as other sellers in our area.

We keep quite a few pure breeds (silkies, cochin, silverlaced wyandotte and cream legbars) so we sell more of our eggs for hatching which does raise the price we get for them.

I ask £1.25/box 6 mixed sizes...m, l and xl

I have one customer who only likes xl...she is very happy to pay £1.60

I give 5p off for every box returned in a re-usable state...they cost me 8p each

I just love people to eat my girls' gorgeous eggs...it's so lovely to hear people say how lovely they are :D

Don't even think what I charge covers the cost of feed etc...can't believe how much it has gone up

I used to charge 80p for a half or £1.50 for a dozen but now i have had to increase it to £1 and £2 as feed has gone up and i always thought 80p for a half was too little anyway, i think my girls eggs are special and its not fair to just give them away as they generally are not appreciated enough, supermarket charge well over £1.50 for half dozen free range, and i ask friends and relative to save me egg boxes. i did initially get egg boxes from ebay but they can be expensive and negates the money made on eggs thought the more u buy the cheaper they are.
