Best liner/ bedding for drop tray

I noticed that Omlet are selling Eco Cardboard Bedding and I wondered if this was the same stuff that I got in my package from Cotswold Chickens lately as packaging? I ordered a load of stuff from them and it all came in a huge cardboard box, packed with this shredded corrugated cardboard. I thought "oh this is great, I can use this in the girls' nest boxes and house", and I did It was really quite good stuff I thought and I would think certainly in the winter time it would be excellent at keeping the girls nice and toasty. I have used it all up now but I think I might try the Eco stuff from Omlet later in the year if it is the same stuff - does anybody know if it is the same

There are two types of cardboard bedding, little bits of cardboard about 2cm square or softer cardboard bedding which is a bit like chunky shreddings, kind of like bulky sawdust

 

I personally dont rate either, the former looks uncomfy and the latter gets damp

Horrid disgusting stuff -anyone who has used this on horses will agree (well the ones I know who used it will !) It's cheap for a reason

Hmmmm... maybe I'll give it a miss then. This stuff I've used seems to have been OK though, but I wouldn't have used it in the run as it would definitely get damp and go all mushy, but in the house it has been fine. I just used it rather than waste it by throwing it away. As a newbie, I'm interested to try all sorts and experiment, but I value the advice of the more experienced chickeneer

I've been using Unibed up until now, but when I need to replace it I want to try Aubiose as everyone seems to rate it so highly. Also I am keen to try wood chips in the run - only problem is getting hold of it. My local B&Qs dont have it in stock and the nearest place seems to be B&Q somewhere in Luton. Does anyone know where else it can be bought from - even on the net

I buy beechwood chips from Titmuss - not cheap though £12 for a big bag. It last for ages though

We got bark from flytesofancy, expensive delivery charge though. Just found a brill new place near Nottingham, which is close for us to collect from. Hens for pets if anyone is interested!

I'm currently using shredded paper in the cube, as dont want to waste it or have to dispose of it. not a patch on 'proper' stuff, but I reckon it just gets poo-ed on and clean it out a bit more often...
