What size broody cage?

Recommended Posts

Zooplus have a 24hr sale on today and was tempted by a dog cage for potential broody problem solving.

linky

They have a few sizes. The smallest (and therefore cheapest is 63 x 55 x 61 cm (L x W x H) and costs £21.90.

Is this an adequate size cage for a hybrid or should i look into getting the next size up 78 x 55 x 61 cm (L x W x H) which costs £26.90?

Thanks for your time. x

Yes, handy for buying new chooks too! :shh::angel::lol:

It's more a query as to how much room other people have allowed for with their set-ups. I was thinking that the showing cages they have at shows fits a bird in but they look a little cramped to keep a girl in for about the 3days or so that may be needed. I think i may get the medium sized one.

Thanks for that Claret.

I'd say the medium cage looks about right. Just enough room to do three or four steps in either direction and flap or stretch their wings.

In your case - would you put them in a cage each? I'd have thought they'd snuggle up to each other otherwise

Madge has gone broody on me today - it's been building all week. It was a nightmare last summer without a cage but I have not been able to find anything suitable at a reasonable cost today .

So I had a brainwave, I've brought one of those big plastic laundry bins - and it is a big one. I've popped it up on a frame of perches in the WIR - it's secured in place with bungies, on it's size, with a couple of shoe rack base things popped inside to give a flat floor for her. The lid is held on with more bungies and the bungies are holding her favourite bunny water bottle in place, with one of the hooks holding very small feeder. She's as happy as Larry.

I had to order a dog crate for when Mabel came to visit me, and got a black coated Medium crate (30") for £24.89 (inc Free Express Delivery - and it came in 2 days) off ebay :D

Its great, did the job and is folded up ready for the broodies - although I'll probably use them to hatch over the summer

Mine was this one - ebay seller is "peteurope" 'cos I know how annoying it is when someone posts a link and the item has expired!
