Meet my Girls!!!

Queenie the Speckledy... so far living up to her namesake by being the one in charge (bossy!!)

Kate the Sussex, who likes strutting her stuff but seems very sweet natured too

And finally, Camilla the Bluebelle, the grey one and, let's face it, not exactly the prettiest chicken in the world!

I'M IN LOVE!!!

Doubt it will stay that way for long!

[ZoeBunny]

Just picked up my final 2 girls... Beatrice & Eugenie

They come with a sad little story. Their breeder recently died of cancer and I got them from her daughter who was having to sell her chickens on. She knows for sure that they are 15wks old but didn't know whether they were true Cream Legbars or Hybrids. She was very sad to see them go but needed them gone asap.

She was over the moon that I wanted to take both girls, and that they would stay together forever... so would only accept £15 for both of them! (bargain!)

So here they are... what do you think? Are they hybrids? (Heritage Skyline/Columbine) Costwolds or 'true' CLB??

Aren't they simply beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

The one in the foreground looks like my Heratage Skyline as featured on the 'One Show'. Look who's name dropping She is so cute and freindly wants to be picked up all the time.

[fluffy chick]

Not sure I'm sure someone else will know though, the one at the back looks more like a clb to me. Both lovely. Still prefer the bluebelle though

[Plum]

Sad story about the owner. But fabulous girls, what lovely colouring whatever they are you must be so pleased.

[ZoeBunny]

I'm chuffed to bits!!

Will try to get a better photo of them tomorrow... they certainly aren't camera shy as they just run straight up to the lens - hence the rubbish pic!

[ZoeBunny]

Forgot to add... partition down the run working well so far! The wire I used is big enough for the chickens to lean through to the other side to peck at the ground etc (but not big enough for them to get stuck) so they've already inter-acted with each other quite well.

Queenie the Speckledy has certainly become the boss of her side and has been particularly interested in the new 2 all afternoon, she's been pretty noisy chatting to them! But no major diving at each other, only minor feather 'tweaking' in her side and the 2 new ones are obviously stuck together like glue already.

Not sure the CLB's have found their temp house though yet... might have fun and games later trying to get them in

[Henslaved]

What beautiful ladies, you must be very pleased

[beach chick]

lovley! you will probably find, because you got them so close together, that they'll settle down really quickly and you'll be able to remove the dividing line

[ZoeBunny]

Update!

All the girls appear to be getting along... so I put them all in the cube together last night... a bit of noise from bossy Queenie, but no fisticuffs! They all emerged, feathers intact and in one piece this morning. Quickly grabbed the legbars & put them back in their side of the run for the rest of the day as didn't want to risk it.

So tonight, I'm going to do the same & put them to bed together - question is, do I take down the barrier once they are tucked up?? Or do you think it's still too early??

[Chicken shack]

Go for it but be around in case of a squable. Have fun and enjoy.

[ZoeBunny]

Given them all a good squirt of anti-peck in preparation.. god that stuff stinks!

Hope it tastes as bad as it smells!

[fluffy chick]

They are all new so you might be ok anyway

[Plum]

I would if you are around and you can always take a step backwards again. Just read the body language

[ZoeBunny]

Going to go for it!!

Will be in my pj's & wellies... cup of coffee & water spray in hand to watch the 'fireworks' first thing in the morning!

Fx it will go ok, will let you know

[ZoeBunny]

All in together!!

Sat with them for the first hour and have been checking on them every 20 mins or so since. A fair bit of chasing around and minor pecking/feather pulling but no major fighting or anything. Surprisingly it's been the Bluebelle that's been the worst with the 2 legbars.. I guess that's probably down to the fact that I think she's no. 3 in her group so she's just trying to keep the 2 smaller girls underneath her.

The legbars do keep going in the cube to get away from the bigger girls... but it doesn't seem to be going too badly so far - touch wood!!!!

[Jools]

Glad it's working out for you.

You're right about the hierarchy, no-one wants to be at the bottom and I've often found that it's the "lowest" hen that is the most horrible to newcomers.

[fluffy chick]

really pleased it's going well for you. I found each day gets better with intros, but keep an eye out to be sure.
