witzend
I've read (and also been told) that you're supposed to bath chickens (water - not dust) with a 3-bucket method?? I wondered if this was REALLY necessary if they're kept in a clean run/garden - is it just if they're particularly muddy most/all the time? Anyone any thoughts? karlotta
I've only ever washed bit of chickens, for example if someone has a pooey bum!
Redwing
You don't normally have to bathe a chicken, you may have to do a partial wash if they get really mucky but good husbandry and vigilance against mites etc.. Mean that it's extremely rare to have to do a full bath I show my chooks so do wash them using the multiple bucket method as it's by far the best way but a pet chook shouldn't need a bath as a rule

Redwing
Chickens do a whole melodrama thing when bathed and sometimes their legs go from under them, its typical but very worrying, they are up again within a few minutes and absolutely fine mine dont mind the actual bathing though And they love the hairdryer (but I usually let them dry naturally) I can leave Tarzan to rotate in front of the hairdryer by himself If anyone out there decides to bathe a chook keep it indoors to dry or hairdryer it, dont assume that because its a nice day they can dry in the sun its never worth the risk of them getting chilled

sparkysmum
I have to bath my old ex batt from time to time. I bath her in the sink with baby bath & dry her off with a hair dryer. If I can find any foties I'll post them. But like Redwing's Tarzan, Boris just stand s in front of it. Don't even have to hold her. Beautiful, soft & clean afterwards
witzend
Note to self: Must buy Johnsons No Tears Presume this is what people tend to use?
Redwing
I use Gallop horse shampoo but baby shampoo or gentle dog shampoo is fine Do try to avoid bathing birds if you can though
