patsylabrador
I keep finding BB gun pellets in the garden. I really hope no one is trying to frighten the chickens. They're good girls and make very little noise & no smell or mess. I don't think they would be able to hurt them as they'd have to get through wire of WIR and I haven't found anything inside the run. It's an uncomfortable feeling that neighbours might be doing that though.
Old Speckled Hen
When I was working I used to treat cats for pellet injuries quite often (one poor puss was actually blinded) and pellets were quite common incidental findings. It's so sad....I guess chickens are another target for these mindless individuals.
majuka
That is awful, are there several houses and gardens around yours where they could be coming from?
percy049
You could ask around your neighbours?
bostock422
some people aren't all there in the head, if a chicken is bothering you don't shoot it with a BB gun, that's gong to cause more problems including a angry chicken owner! Sam
Are you sure they haven't been there for a long time? Me and my brother used to have little BB guns (they were harmless and no where near powerful enough to hurt anyone) and still find pellets around the garden. Well I think it's from our BB guns, unless the pensioners from next door have bought one! If however someone has been purposely shooting your chickens, then that is awful
Chucky Mama
I suspect it is a young boy (or 2). Sadly a small minority are given these guns and they have no supervision, suitable targets and have a distinct lack of sense. It might be worth getting a fake CCTV camera box put up (or a real one) along with a note on your WIR.
Egluntyne
If someone is shooting pellets at your chickens, shouldn't you ask the police to investigate?
percy049
If someone is shooting pellets at your chickens, shouldn't you ask the police to investigate? I was just thinking that . After all, I'm sure its illegal (would it be classed as animal cruelty?)
CluckyBucks
I agree with Egluntyne, i think this is probably a matter for the police. And if the culprits are small children, hopefully the police will scare them out of doing in future. I hope the matter gets resolved xx xx
Old Speckled Hen
Do you think that the police would investigate bb shells in a garden? My nephew got beaten up for being in the wrong pace this weekend. He ended up in hospital with eight fractured ribs. The police came along just to give us a crime number.
Redwing
Are BB pellets different to airgun pellets - i didn't think BB pellets could injure... If they are different and it's the former I'd stick some notices up or through letterboxes saying that shooting at animals and birds can scare them, if it's airgun pellets I'd do the same but also inform the police and neighbourhood watch
bostock422
If it is a air gun pellet it's a lot more serious than a plastic BB. You're allowed to shoot your air rifle in your garden, BUT you're pellets have to stay within you the bounty of your land. If it if a air gun pellet, you should ring police as it's a firearm offence. But if it's just a plastic BB I don't think the police will do anything, i might be wrong, they might do something.
