Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

We have two existing hens and have just got 3 new girls almost a week ago. I had a phone call from my landlords wife earlier saying their neighbour is emigrating to America in July and they have 3 hens aged about 4 years and, AND an Eglu they want to give, yup GIVE to a good home! I have said yes, but I am wondering if 8 hens in our fair sized garden will be too much I feel its too good an opportunity to pass up But as ED said, we won't be the mad cat people, we'll just be the mad chicken people.

 

At least we won't have to buy any eggs again as the other 3 are still laying every day. Gosh! 8 eggs a day, in theory

 

I've not spoken to the current owner yet, but will do in the next few days I hope. It's not all definite and she may end up asking for something for the Eglu and run, but I hope that won't be the case

Wow, seems too good an opportunity to miss . Do you know if their hens are still laying? They are quite elderly!

It certainly does, doesn't it If I get a free eglu, that'll be it - I'll never win the lottery now

 

Apparently they are, 3 eggs a day, which was quite surprised about given they are about 4.

What the heck do they want to come here (America) for? LOL. Take the Eglu and run! Honestly though, if the chickens get to be too much, and I don't think they will, you can always re-home a couple. I'd give it a good go first.
