witzend
When you get your 1st new pullets, what time of day is best to get them...............early on - so they've the day to scratch around & settle in - or much later so they go straight to bed and wake up in new surroundings? Egluntyne
I don't think it matters. There are advantages and disadvantages all round.
witzend
I think I'd prefer to get them early on - if it turns out to be possible, then they have all day to settle............couple of weeks off yet but sorting everything out beforehand.............chicken course 19/6 - YAY!! Olly
For lots of us the arrival time of our first hens depended on when the Omlet van got here! I really wouldn't worry - they will settle in whatever time it is.

Luvachicken
How eggciting for you. I got my chickens as a birthday pressie and they arrived around about 1ish just as I got in from work. It was February and not all of them got the hang of the ladder before it got dark, so I had to scrabble about in the snow to help them. (that was before I found out about the torch technique) I'm hopefully getting some new chickens soon and think it would be nice to get them earlier in the day and see them settle in. I'm sure I read somewhere that they shouldn't be transported on long journeys if it was really hot, but most cars have air con these days anyway ( except mine ) so I'm not sure about that. Good luck with your chickens when they come, I'm sure you will love them

Olly
If they won't go to bed on the first night, you can shine a torch through the egg-port and (in theory, anyway) they should go towards the light. Just bear in mind that not all chickens have read the manual, though!
