Parsley
came home with two bantam double laced barnevelder and a pair of bantam silver spangled Thuringians Have had to play musical hen houses as had no intention of getting a cockeral this time around but this is a very rare breed and bred by Priscilla Middleton so could not say no really Have also been after this breed for ages and thought I would have to go up to Yorkshire to get some. Mr Thuringian ( no names yet ) is on a trial period though and can go back if necessary. Hatching eggs anyone? OH has his head in his hands as he let me go to the show on my own, silly man Edited June 11, 2011 by Guest

Parsley
I will try to get some good pics tomorrow when it is a bit drier and then attempt to load them The thuringians are beautiful and I love having a cockeral again. He has crowed a bit today but has not been too bad. He has been named Rasputin Have yet to think of a name for his bearded lady. Have just given him a bed time cuddle and he seems very good natured, no fuss made at all I have decided to move on one of the bantam Barnevelders as only really wanted one but they came as a twosome. They do not seem to be bonded as both have gone their separate ways free ranging today. Lovely little hens but having two is taking up space that could be filled by another breed to satisfy my moorhens
daxigirl
You must have claimed your newbies before I got there. I went today but was good and came back with some plants, to make the garden less chickened to death. Had to smile when I drove past a village called 'Henfield'. Parsley
Yesterday was manic in the chicken tent. It opened at 10 and there was a very long queue waiting. It was like the pictures you see on the telly on the first day of Harrods sale only instead of china and wedding dresses people were grabbing sales cards
Parsley
Ok, hopefully I am managing to put some pictures of my beautiful Rasputin and his bearded lady on. Sorry they are a bit blurred but this was a first free range and they would not stop still Bearded lady went in after a while but Razzle spied my ladies through the gate and in my husbands words saw what was on offer I was able to corner him and catch him though, he is such a lovely boy Edited June 11, 2011 by Guest

Parsley
Well unfortunately Rasputin's time with me is going to be a short one We have had comments about his crowing already so for the sake of my stress levels he will be going back. I used to keep a cockeral with no problems, in fact most people were unaware as I am responsible with when I let them out and put to bed. Then a neighbour got chickens and 4 males which are not shut in a house at night, and people got upset at being woken at 3.30 with crowing in the summer. He also has a rat problem Things got better over winter but apparently have escalated again at the moment with sound monitoring equipment being put in place by the council. I know that I am unfairly being tarred with the same brush which is why I got a reassurrance he could go back. Such a shame as he is a beautiful boy in looks and temperment and I am very attached already.
