Jam guru wisdom needed!

Recommended Posts

I have a few handfuls of a mixture of ripe fruit from the garden - Strawberries,Raspberries & Blackcurrants, plus some wild Strawberries.

I though I might make some jam,but only a small amount, one jar perhaps.

So,is there a 'rule' as to how much sugar goes to how much fruit?

I seem to remeber it is even amounts???

And would I need jam Sugar or Preserving Sugar,do you think?

Thanks.

I now have 500g of mixed berries, and will jam them up today.

It's a pain getting such small amounts of fruit ripening, but st last this way I can make something useful out of it,rather than leaving it in the fridge where it gets forgotten about

I love mixed fruit jams, it is a great way to use oddments of fruit and they taste different every time.

I use Jam sugar for all of my jams except blackcurrant. You will probably find that a small amount will set pretty much in the time on the instructions, but larger quantities can take quite a bit longer.
