splodge88
Hiya, my chicken has been acting a bit droopy since yesterday, we're very wary because we recently lost one to being egg-bound, anyway her crop feels okay but she has not been eating as much as normal and generally acting a bit funny. Then today as we were about to pick her up she made a bright green poo! A sort of thinner consistency than normal, not a blob. There also seemed to be some yolk in the nest yesterday even though neither hens lay anymore. Any help please? I've researched and there are suggestions it could be liver failure, egg-binding, impacted/sour crop, tummy bug or just eating something funny…so I'm not sure what to treat it as. I gave her some yoghurt with oil to help any blockages, but I really don't want to lose her any ideas?
Egluntyne
Has she been wormed?
Jools
If she isn't eating much, it could make her droppings green. Assuming you have a regular worming regime, I'd try her with Nettex Nutri Drops (available in the Omlet shop and in some retail outlets) to see if giving her system a boost stimulates her appetite. With yolk in the nest, I'd suspect some laying tackle problems which will make her feel poorly. If that doesn't improve things, then it sounds like a trip to the vets is in order. splodge88
Yup they are regularly wormed. I will try to get some of those drops, thanks. And what exactly are tackle problems? None of our vets do chickens, so we'd have to be prepared to sort it ourselves. Thanks for your advice.
Jools
Sorry I missed your reply about laying tackle - I meant that she may have a laying related problem. This can make them appear listless, especially if she has a soft-shell egg brewing, then they make a miraculous recovery once it's passed. It could be more serious though. Hope she's okay
