This may be a rather daft question but I am just wondering at what age people have heard their young cockerel chicks crow?

 

I was taken aback to hear one of mine crowing (or at least doing a very good imitation) at 3 weeks and 1 day old. The said chick and his siblings were in the spare room in the house.

 

Also is it breed dependant? His father was an appenzellar cross poland (an an excellent crower) and mother was either a welsummer or dorking.

I had one that started trying at about 4 or 5 weeks old while he was in the indoor brooder but stopped as soon as he went outside for a while but started at about 10 weeks sounded like a strangled goose it took him about another 4 weeks to perfect his crow

I've now got one that started to practice crowing at 10 weeks sound more like a vintage car horn butat the moment he's board of crowing he's about 11-12 weeks old

I've had a few that have crowed really early - one a matter of days

 

Normally you'd expect it anytime from 12 weeks, my pure breed probably average out at 14 weeks

Mine has just started trying - he's 8 weeks - I panicked the first time I heard him, I thought he was being attacked by something

mine is 8 weeks and runs out and doodle doooos each morning but only once ( such a good boy )

Mine made a strange sort of strangled honking noise at six weeks, this then developed into a longer squeaking shriek which I'm afraid led to them both being dispatched. Their dad took ages to crow I was starting to wonder if he ever would, he won't shut up now!

Roostie, my 14 week old Frizzle cockerel, has just started crowing this week. He sounds a bit soprano at the moment, it's very sweet to hear!

Mine started at 6 wks this time and they're word perfect at 10 wks!

I have a Silver Laced Bantam, who crowed at about 7 weeks, his brother who is now 11 weeks has'nt made any attempt.

I have a 12 week old pekin cockerel who is thankfully still silent, he's hopefully off to a friends house when he starts to crow.
