Murdochs in front of commons committee

Recommended Posts

I've been quite fascinated all afternoon. one thing though: regardless of the rights and wrongs of News Int behaviour, it seems a bit like bear-baiting to me with one MP after another taking turns to ask the same question albeit in slightly different words, the answers to most of which wont really make any difference to anything it seems to me...

I did all my jobs around the house & garden this morning so I could sit and watch this. I started with watching former Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson earlier, he still puzzles me. Despite his vague explainations, I cannot understand why he resigned. James Murdoch seems as snakey as a snake in the grass. As for his father, is he a brilliant actor or genuinely, despite the image surrounding him, a frail old man?

Rebecca Brooks on now but I've got to go to work!!!!!!!!!!!

missed all that, need to watch it on the news! will have to be on Sky tho as am off to bed in a min to watch the rerun of 2012 - the mock-doc about the olympics, missed it first time around and it had good reviews.

I thought they performed very well in a very difficult situation; it just seemed a horrible inquisition (its not as if the Murdoch family are Pol Pot or Hitler after all... they run a huge business) and I hope we dont lose a free press as a result of all this controversy. that said, I dont like what happened with the NOTW at all, I just dont think its as simple as made out.

it might be a horrible inquisition, but some of what they "allegedly" did isn't just immoral, or a bit below the belt. It's positively criminal. According to the papers (if you can believe anything any of them say) they hacked into Milly Dowlers phone after she went missing and deleted some messages. Her family thought she was still alive because her phone was being used. Presumable the Police ALSO thought she was still alive. Lets hope it didn't have an impact on the investigation..... Murdoch might be 82 and frail, but one of the privileges of being worth £5 billion is that the buck stops with you. No he can't be expected to know every little detail that goes on in his immense corporation, but if there is no one accountable in a position of seniority then he has to take the fall. As for Rebekah Brooks, don't get me started, never mind the convenient "suicide" or non-suspicious death of the former editor, Hoare or whatever his position was......

Let's not forget that not only was potential evidence tampered with in what ended up a murder case, over 200 people have lost their jobs. I personally don't believe that this is due to the 'toxicity' of NOTW, more likely a Murdoch sacrifice at the time to allow the greater goal of his various acquisitions to continue. He's evidently not that frail mentally.

Heck, I'd best not say any more in case I end up dead in unexplained but unsuspicious circumstances!

I dont mean we should just ignore it... but it made me uncomfortable to see a man the same age as my mother in that situation. actually I am surprised I felt like that to be honest, perhaps I am going soft.

I agree there were criminal, disgusting acts - in fact I said so on the NOTW thread; the police behaviour is not exactly above reproach. but I also think that both Rupert and James were careful not to cast blame on individuals which would have been really easy to do and would have got them off the hook.

so I dunno!

and as for the pie thing - I thought Wendi was fantastic, she got well stuck in!
