Frankie Dicken
HELP! One of the hens I bought from a farmer 18mnths.ago had depluming mite The farmer said it wasn't but the egg sacs were there in Nov. and the chicken had a bald posterior by May which I treated with flowers of sulphur. The cycle apparently repeats each year. This year I frequently checked and discovered little mites around the vent and the mite and lice powder did the trick. However, to my horror, lower down her bottom, on the thick downy patch, I discovered many grey sacs, bigger and coloured grey unlike the ones of the mite I managed to remove which were white. How on earth do I get rid of these sacks before they hatch? I got one off, and it's certainly full of eggs, but it is too painful for the hen for them to be pulled off one by one - she'd never forgive me! Can anyone tell me of a painless and reliable way to get rid of these sacs before hundreds of little critturs emerge? Frankie Dicken
Ain't Nobody Here
They sound like lice eggs. I used scissors to snip off the feathers with eggs on. That's the only way I know of to get rid of them once you've treated the live beasties . There's some useful info here. Good luck .
