I have abit of a slug infestation and thought I'd take my revenge by collecting them up and feeding them to my girls, they fought over the first one but then turned their noses up at the rest!! I then had to spend another 10 minutes collecting them all up again and finding another way of disposing of them! I just thought they'd hoover them up maybe they're just too slimey!! Chucky Mama Posted July 21, 2011 Share Posted July 21, 2011 The black ones are very slimy. I think most slug eating animals have trouble with them. We had a hedgehog who just couldn't cope with them. She used to get thick slime all over her feet and mouth. Slugs are one of the intermediate hosts of some worm species so in theory it is better that they don't eat them. sadietoo Posted July 21, 2011 Share Posted July 21, 2011 When I refilled my girls grubs this morning there was a nasty big orange black slug in there..(I'm a vegetarian, but even I find slugs repellent - they are truly hard to love )...very wisely imo they were giving it a very wide berth...and I applied the pooper scooper to whisk it out and into the "wildflower" bed at the end of our garden (ok so its the weed patch behind the shed ) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Slightly off-topic but that reminds me of our old neighbour whose solution to the slug problem in his garden was to sneak around the flower borders after dark with a torch and a pair of scissors to cut the slugs in half ....... my kids thought it was hilarious Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Can't bear the thought of fizzing them with salt or cutting them in half, but beer traps are excellent. Have watered beer down a little and it still works and hopefully it is less painful (actually, have no idea about slugs nervous systems (or lack of) but hopefully you know what I mean).
