Leicester_H
Hi Just over 3 years ago, we had a new kitchen and expensive Miele built in refrigerator (with a 3 year warranty!). Recently, the temperature is fluctuating wildly (2-20 degrees) - so we assumed it had enough coolant (as it could get cold enough)and the thermostat was faulty. We bought the correct one, OH fitted it but problem remains. Any ideas ? H
Purplemaniacs
Do they have a forum that may be able to give advice. OH seems to find forums for all sorts of things when he needs some info. Chrissie
Dodge
If you are out of warranty, then it will cost you a £90 call out charge from Miele just to look at it. I would phone up their head office service desk and they should be able to at least point you in the right direction as to what might have failed and also give you some idea how much it will cost to put right. To contact the customer service of Miele, please dial the 0845 365 6600. Opening hours : Mon to Fri - 8:00am - 8:00pm & Sat and Sun - 9:00am - 5:00pm Good luck. Tutti Frutti
found this but not sure if it is any help - as you thought, thermostat comes up often. It reminded me of the problem that Samsung RS21 side-by-side fridge freezer had and it took BBC Watchdog to raise it before Siemens did the honourable thing and started offering repairs FOC. btw, a manufacturer's warranty does not invalidate your statutory consumer rights under the sales of goods act 1979 amended - which states that goods should be as described, fit for purpose and (the important one here) of suitable quality which includes lasting for a reasonable length of time - unfortunately the timeframe is not legally defined and it may be that fridges have an expected life span of 3 years Bit of a tricky one... The amended act gives you up to to 6 years to claim a repair (or refund if a fault develops soon after purchase and before you're deemed to have "accepted" the goods) if the item hasn't lasted "a reasonable length of time"... (which is different for different products - so fridges are expected to last longer than, say, a lightbulb). Such a minefield! More here Out of interest, it might be worth calling Miele and seeing if it's a known fault and whether they'd repair it to ensure their good customer relations. DH works for an electronics giant and they have been known to offer FOC repairs, especially if it's *just* outside the warranty, to keep loyal customers happy and their reputation intact So if your previous fridge was a Miele, remember to mention it (and that it was 15 years old and still going strong when you had your kitchen refitted ) (not that I'm encouraging you to fib! ) Edited to give the correct brand of the faulty FF Edited July 29, 2011 by Guest
Leicester_H
Thanks all - knew you'd come up with some useful suggestions. Will follow them up H
Patricia W
The Miele office is in Abingdon and we've always found them helpful so I'd try talking to them first. They pride themselves on the longevity of their products and customer service.
Sammiboo
Hi it could be a number of things, for it to show erratic temperature i would doubt it would be be short of refrigerant, usally if its short of gas the temperature will go up and could cause frosting on the evaporator. Sounds like it could be the PCB (controller) or the thermostat. Im no engineer but working for commercial refrigeration company can come in useful
WitchHazel
When we have white goods problems, we ask here at the UK WHitegoods forum. Many of the mmbers are engineers, so the advice is usually good, http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/
