wuckyduckspenno
Hi, Hope someone can help. I have 2 MSAs and one of them has started to shake when standing still. She is ok when walking around and seems quite happy other than that but once she stands still to preen/eat/drink she is shaking quite vigorously and her legs are quivering. She has been like this for over a week and I am getting more concerned - i would hate to lose her. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is there anything I can do? I hope someone can help me and my little girl. Wucky
Snowy
Not familiar with ducks I'm afraid - what is an MSA? Whatever, any symptom that has been present for a week with no improvement I really think would be better seen by a vet
wuckyduckspenno
Thanks, Snowy. MSA = Mini Silver Appleyard. she is eating/drinking fine and walking around ok. I have just picked her up and there is no sign of injury on her feet/legs. She is moulting at present and waiting for her new feathers to come through. Her sister is absolutely fine - no similar symptoms I am hoping it is a sprain but not sure how long they last for. hope someone has experience this and can give some advice. Snowy
Ah! Thanks for the explanation Although I don't know about duck disorders, I'm sure the symptoms of sprains/strains and infections are likely to be similar across most species. A sprain usually causes a limp rather than shaking, and should have started to improve after a week. I would be worried that the sort of shaking you describe may be more indicative of an underlying infection of some sort, or even some other kind of disorder. As I said before, I really think it would be wise to seek a specialist opinion
wuckyduckspenno
update on my little Maggie. Took her to the vet today and we are still none the wiser. Vet has advised he would have thought it was a virus or poison but as Maggie is still eating and drinking and getting around looking really healthy he has ruled them out. He has said that whilst she is so well looking that I need to just keep an eye on her although he has not ruled out a herefitary breeding problem or nerological disorder causing the tremors. But if anyone reading this has experienced anything simlar please advise. all the best Wucky
Snowy
A neurological disorder does sound a strong possibility Well done for seeking a vet opinion - at least you now have a clearer idea of what you are dealing with and can make the appropriate decisions. It sounds as though the problem is not causing her any discomfort. All you can do now is ensure she remains happy and does not suffer.
