thinking of ending this chicken experiment

Recommended Posts

It's just not worked. :( Had them a year. Started llaying in March although the vorwek struggled. Went on holiday in April, sent them to the chicken sitter. picked them up and got a tray of their eggs. Since April the Barnevelder has layed a dozen eggs, the vorwerk nothing at all, the creme legbar constant soft shell eggs. They got grit/oyster shell, they've had liquid calcium and ACV. I cut out treats so just on the layers pelletts and nothing. They/me are useless at this chicken keeping game. The free range round the garden.

Any inspiration before I ship them out?

I'd give them just plain flint grit and pellets for a while. Maybe too many additives are messing with their mineral balance.

Also, have they been wormed, and have you checked under bushes and shrubs to see if they have been laying away from the nesting box.

Noooo!! Don't get rid of them!

Out of my mixed breed flock of six I'm only getting one or two eggs a day at the moment. Some say it's too hot in summer for eggs, some say it's too cold in winter for eggs. It's a bit disappointing but they aren't egg laying machines so I'm grateful for whatever they lay for me.

I keep my girls first and foremost as pets, the eggs are just a bonus :)
