Hi,

I have just bought an Eglu off of Ebay - buy it now rather than auction! I contacted them this morning to discuss pick up times, but not heard anything back as yet (I'm a nervous sort of person, so in my mind I think they've changed their mind or something had gone wrong and I won't end up getting my eglu - in reality they are probably at work or something).

Anyhow I'm very excited to hopefully soon be part of the (green eglu) baragade!

I already have three chickens which are just over 3 years old, but looking to add two newbies and using the Eglu as an introduction house - and see how things go from there. My exisiting (albeit wooden) should be big enough for all 5 of them.

Anyhow I just wanted to share my exciting news.

Also my garden is quite unlevel (I will try and find a level patch for the run), but has anyone used these: http://www.omlet.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cat=Chicken+Keeping&sub=Eglu+Accessories&product_id=9361&product_name=Omlet+Screw+Pegs+-+12+Pack

also looking at shades, not sure whether the winter of clear shade would be better?? (or perhaps I'm jumping the gun a little)

Thanks

Hannah :)

Well done! I have also just bought a second hand Eglu Classic in red and spent the weekend jet washing it and making it look like new (which it now does!) I even got rid of the rust off the screws that attach the run to the house! I'm just waiting for some new occupants hopefully the start of September. Enjoy it when you get it - it's nice to see it all set up and its all yours!!!!

I have used the Omlet pegs to secure the run as the ground I put it on is on a slight slope although I did my best to even out any lumps

You can see the pegs on this photo

I currently have the green shade which I got in the refresher kit with the plastic roosting bars but I think I will order a clear winter shade for them.

I have used the run pegs. They are fine so long as you don't have light sandy soil. I'd go for the clear shade too, As the winter shade makes the run very dark. You can always sling an old duvet cover over it if we have a heatwave and you need to provide shade.

Some hope.

Congratulations on getting your Eglu.

I haven't used the Omlet pegs, but they look very good - I just used metal tent pegs when I had a Classic with a run, and they did the job, but they are hard to remove.

I agree with Egluntyne, go for the clear shade because you can always put something else over if they need shade, it's generally protection from rain that's more important. There are lots of options - clear shower curtains, tarpaulins etc, but the Omlet shades are the right size and shape and come with bungees to fit them, whereas you may have to adapt other things.

I still have a large 'glass' tarpaulin in my garage ... bought a year ago, I still haven't managed to get it on the WIR!

Well I put the run together yesterday evening,it was a bit drizzly outside but I just couldn't wait. Wasn't quite as easy as I thought it would be, and there were a few points where I could have done with another pair of hands to hold things steady, seemed to also run out of those little clips, so I've still to attach the small square pieces.

Hopefully getting some occupants at the wkend. :)

Bet you are excited now! I put my second hand Eglu Classic and run up this week and I have really sore fingers because of those green clips! I am going to get the clear cover at some point but it's not cheap!
