I really would like more hens because we have a ton of space but my head hen (felicity) when mixed with other chickens really likes to lay down the law and I was wondering if I could get away with some really healthy hybrids that coud stick up for themselves.

 

On the other hand I have a really chilled hen called Cridwen who is protected by Felicity but she might get pick on??

Getting new hens mixes put the pecking order anyway so there is no way of knowing how it will work out.

more hens... always more hens Felicity will soon get the pecking order established and if you get 3 or more she will have more than on to pick on so no-one will get all her attention. May I suggest tho that you don't get them too young, if she is as dominant as you say they will need to stand up for themselves

I have found from my collection and the collection of hybrids in the nursing home where Dad is, the fiestiest of the bunch are:

 

Black rocks

Bluebelle

Silver Sussex

Lohmann Brown

I knew you would want me to get new hens!!! They are sorting out the pecking order and it seems Winnie is top and even Felicity is backing down. I think it will all be over soon as they are not fighting too much.

we have a bluebelle,shes so soft but my god anyone goes near the hen house while shes laying wow,never knew chickens could be so loud,x

I recently renamed Winnie - Tilly short for Atilla the Hen because she is head hen and Winnie just didn't suit!
