Luvachicken
We were on holiday in lovely Norfolk last week and so my Mum and Dad came to stay at my house to look after all my animals. The week before we went away my Mum had a chest infection and was on antibiotics. These were finished by the time she came to stay but her cough remained. She looked after my animals really nicely as usual, and they went home at the weekend. BUT yesterday she was in hospital having chest x-rays and blood tests and now she blames herself for giving my chicken Myrtle a bad cold. They said she had a touch of Pleurosy (? sp) Did my Mum really give Myrtle the cold or is it just one of those things ?
lindafw
Pleurosy is not an infectious or contagious disease it is an inflamation of the Pleura so she can rest easy
Luvachicken
I did tell her that I wasn't certain you could give chickens germs, so thank you, I will tell her.

loumabel
I asked my vet this question but the other way around as I had a bad cough after my chooks got myco and he said no way had I caught it from the chooks. He also said that cross species infection is extremely rare and that is why the press and medical profession get so worked up when it does happen. Best wishes to your mum and hope she feels better soon.
Space Chick
My friends little girl got chicken pox after they'd been up to visit... The Mum (a nurse) told her that seeing the chickens was NOT why she had chicken pox, but the clever 6 year old made the logical connection... I mean it's called CHICKEN pox. Still amuses me Hope your mind it as rest, and your Mum will be better soon. Bless her for worrying she had caused your chicken's illness x
