hunkydoory
Five malting Pekins and the back garden looks like there has been an explosion in a feather pillow factory Having kept big girls before this little lot, I've seen temporarily scruffy looking chickens - but this is something else. They are currently leaving a trail of white wafting little feathers behind them as they waddle up the garden Happily they don't seem the least bit embarassed by their unkempt appearance or sp"Ooops, word censored!"ly feathered bloomers
cavysqueak
That's put a funny picture in my head! We have a who is half the size that she normally is and she is showing .... shock horror .... neck skin!!! When she turns her head you can catch a glimpse of skin at the base of her neck / top of her wings. I'm loving the really long cuddles though. She's happy for a good 20 minutes sitting on your knee dozing away at the moment. My mother-in-law had a supposedly red canary who is just looking a dull brown / orange at the moment! Lets hope they all get their feathers back soon.
percy049
I havent experienced an extreme moult, as before this year we had rescued hens, and basically grew all their feather when we got them. Our hens might have started, I dont know as we have been on holiday, but are picking them up from the pet hotel later today!
hunkydoory
No, after 5/6 years of keeping chickens I haven't seen a mault like it before. Although they are definately ragged and untidy I'm not quite sure where it is all coming from! They all white or lavendar in colour (so pale) and the garden looks like it has had a smatering of snow. Quite unseasonal really
