JellyBean
Hi everyone We've just brought 2 new hens home to live with 2 of our old girls. They're in separate pens but due to space restrictions they are right next to each other. Anyway, I'd like done advice if that is ok? The 2 newbies are 22-24 weeks old. When should I worm them? Now, at the same time as my girls ( who were done in June) or something else? When should I treat for mites? We had am issue in June I think so I'm a bit twitchy now. I used pets at homes finest powders/ sprays but what would be your recommendation for me to buy? What's best for the girls, the eglu and the run? What supplements should I have on standby? One of the old girls is looking a little like she could do with a pep- nothing serious but I'd like to have a few things by me. Thanks for your advice
JellyBean
Re worming I mean should I wait until I worm the old girls in autumn, do them now or wait till the newbies are older- I'm assuming they should all be done at the same time? Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new girls . Normally, the advice is to keep new arrivals separate from existing girls to ensure no infections are brought in but I've always had to keep mine right next to each other (with mesh inbetween) due to space restrictions, like you. Did the breeder mention if they'd been wormed? If your other girls are due to be done, I don't think there would be any harm doing them all together (someone else may be more knowledgeable than me!) For prevention, I use Red Mite Powder on my girls and Diatom in the eglu (and Johnsons Mite and Lice spray if there's an outbreak of lice). As for supplements, have a read of this which list tonics etc you can give them. Hope that helps .
