Treacle
My 4 girls are very lucky and have 2 grubs and 2 glugs. They don't eat out of the grubs preferring to have food scattered and now they are ignoring nice fresh clear water in favour of puddled rain water full of goodness knows what! daxigirl
Weird aren't they? My lot were going mad for the rain dripping off the run wire yesterday. Also when I put their treats in they prefer them scattered on the dirt rather than on nice clean tray.
Lavenders_Blue
Not sure about preferring the scattered food, but I can promise you that any chook will turn their nose up at nice clean drinking water in favour of a nice manky puddle! On a rainy day the water level in my girls drinkers barely goes down at all.
Purplemaniacs
Mine like the rain drops on the wire too but they will eat out of a nice clean silver bowl when its treat time Chrissie
squiffs
Mine also loooove rain water, and when there's a puddle they'll go for it. They also like to peck the drops trickling down t of their clear shower curtains. They eat out of their treat bowl, though, as ever since I got my first lot I've conditioned them to associate a pink bowl with treats, they go mad when they see it now
Egluntyne
Try leaving the water to stand for 24 hours before you top up their drinkers. They don't seem keen on the chlorine.
Mercedes55
Ours all prefer puddles too
fluffy chick
I use 2 water butts at the end of the garden to fill their waterers. I used to make the long trek down to them, back up to thr house and then back to them to give them tap water. But they prefered rain water so now they get it from the water butts! Saves me time so all good.
Happy Mrs Chicken
I agree, chickens don't seem to like tap water, neither does my cat,i use my Brita water filter to fill up the glug and dog and cat bowls.
Valkyrie
They do like it when boiled water is added to take the chill off in winter. They also love the Life Guard supplement. But the best water of all is from a muddy puddle - or two or three . . .
