Chickendoodle
I am down on the South Coast (Eastbourne) and I have friends in the Woking area and we want to meet up somewhere mid-way to walk our dogs rather than one family do all the driving. I guess mid-way would be somewhere between the Brighton and Gatwick areas. Any ideas for good forest / woodland walks
bettyhen
You could try the Ashdown Forest....bit like a mini New Forest. I grew up in a village there, though haven`t been back for ages It`s mainly heathland with wide paths, but if you go over towards Hartfield there`s the Hunderd Acre Wood with Pooh bridge. squiffs
I've got a book of walks in the drawer at home - I think a lot of them are on the south downs though, I'll have a peek when I get home.
The Dogmother
This site is usually good for walk ideas. Failing that, get the OS map out and start planning
Daphne
Leith Hill is a good one, plenty of paths and stunning views. Its near Dorking which is in the Gatwick area-ish although further for you. Look up Coldharbour to find carparking. PS pub in Coldharbour can be unfriendly; take it from one who knows Ashdown Forest would be lovely too, and there is a good cafe at the Llama Park (you don't have to go into the llama bit). patsylabrador
Box Hill near Dorking is also very good. Alternative types of walks, play areas, plenty of parking at top & bottom of hill. There are also toilets and a cafe at the bottom & the top. Beautiful views. Denbies vineyard is also very close.
