Door too small for Jersey Giant?

Hello,

 

This morning when I went to let the girls out I found one of my girls had spent the night hiding behind a flower pot. She seemed a little miserable but when I put the food out she joined the other two girls in having breakfast.

 

When I got home from work tonight I found her hiding behind the flower pot again. She is very bloated, heavy and cannot stand. She has always been a big girl but doesn't get anymore treats/food then the other two.

 

I have brought her in and put her in a box with some food and water. Does anyone know what could be wrong with her? Is it just her age? She is an exbat that I have had for nearly 2 years.

 

All advice much appreciated.

Her age and breed, combined with the symptoms, do suggest possible peritonitis. They get a swollen undercarriage and become slow and waddly. There are lots of threads on here about it so worth a search to review your options.

Thanks. I will do some research.

I took her to the vet this morning who diagnosed her with a tumour. We decided the best option was to send her to sleep.

 

Although it is sad, she had a wonderful two years living a free range life. I am glad she experienced a real life outside the battery cage.

You did the right thing by getting a proper diagnosis and, as you said, she had a good 2 years of freedom. RIP little one.

2 years is wonderful but so sad for your loss too xx
