I still have to put down woodchip which arriving loose tipped next week - I wanted to cover the whole area and the runs.

One question for you other Cube owners - the hole in the egg collecting box which is obviously for drainage when cleaning - does anyone block it up with something? - I'm using Aubiose which will all pour out of it!

Still need to go and get more chickens so the others will stay in their Go for the moment. Was thinking of putting the new ones in the Cube, put the Go alongside and then introduce them gradually. My thinking is that the Cube will be all new to the old chickens so the new chickens might be less threatening if they are there first.

That looks great 8)

Oh wow that looks FAB! :)

Question - are the chooks able to reach the superglug/grub at that height? do they dip down at the front? I'm considering getting a superglug, as my gravity drinker gets poop and woodchip in it :(

They drink from underneath the super glug, it has 3 nipples underneath that they peck at :D

The new Superglugs don't have nipples so need to be hung lower down so they drink from the top :D

... I only use mine like that anyway so Gerald can drink from it :)

Looks good :P

We've got an Omlet WIR and it is against a fence just like your's. We got a Tarpaflex clear tarpaulin. Their 2m width is just right for the width of the WIR. They do a 6m lenth which means you can coverthe top plus both sidesbut we just got a 4.2m one so it only goes a little way down the fence (protected) side. We use bungees to roll the side up and down and it looks great and is really flexible and keps water and wind out or lets fresh air and sun in. Enjoy!

Thanks for that advice Lunakiwi1 - was deliberating which size to get - now I know.

Have had a fun day with the wood chip. I order 2 cu metres, loose tipped. It was supposed to come next week but they rang to say they could deliver today. They delivered while I was out but hubby was in. I got two panic phone calls from hubby - well, more angry really! I have at least 6 cu metres I reckon, dumped on the drive. Hubby did most of the run and only used a 1/5 of it. Eldest daughter and I have spent all day shovelling - any inch of the garden where I can shove a bit of woodchip has been covered. I have 3 separate piles set aside for later use, have filled a Jewson bag and still have a bag and a half on the drive to deal with.

I know I effectively got a bargain but heck.......... that was really OTT - I'm going to take pics tomorrow, send them to the tree surgeons and ask how they got their calculation so badly wrong!

However, the run looks great - will post tomorrow with pics.

Sue, I reckon they deliberately did that, they're always looking for ways to offload the woodchip, some tree surgeons will only give people huge quantities on their terms. Be careful of how you store it in the jewson bag, I left a couple of spare bags of hardwood chip in my outhouse in the bags it was delivered in, and when I opened them they had grown mould all over them. I was too worried about the chooks eating all the mould to use it, it's now sitting open in a wheelbarrow, and gets a good wash and dry whenever we have a deluge. Hopefully later in the year it will be okay to put down somewhere.

I'll probably get a tarp too - do you cover the whole top and two sides with it or just the top?

Sue

I got the 2 m x 6m so it can cover both sides too. I just keep one side rolled up until the really bad weather. I wish I'd looked to see if there was a wider width now though because I'm getting an extension.

Looking forward to seeing pics with woodchip and chooks! YOu must be v excited!

We've just added the extra metre of WIR.

The girls are very happy with their Jungle Gym and we have just put a swing in it - waiting to see if they use it.

Some better photos of the girlies.

We have let the older two free range around the outside -there has been a bit of posturing from both sides - and funnily enough it is the least bold of the older ones who seems to be the most stroppy. The other just goes off to do her own thing.
