Uh Oh, I have the bug

Recommended Posts

Today we thought we'd go to the garden centre we got our girls from last week to get the girls a dust tray to use and have a look at the Christmas shop.

Well, we couldn't visit without seeing the chickens they have for sale.....they were gorgeous, very friendly, some lovely Rhode reds and Black Rocks.....and 2 beautiful brown chickens.

Obviously we knew we shouldn't really have any more as we're so new to chicken keeping, so we went to get the car washed.

OH and I couldn't stop talking about the chickens and our own girls and how they are coming along in leaps and bounds. Before we knew it, we'd decided to go and get the 2 brown chickens!

So, welcome Willow and Maisy!

Penny, Bubbs and Dilys are free ranging whilst Willow and Maisy are in the coup and pen, the existing girls are making a lot of noise at them, the new 2 don't seem too bothered. We'll see tonight how they get on together, see if they get on enough to go in the coup together or whether we take the new 2 out and leave them seperated for a few days, any advice on this would be excellent.

Pictures to follow!

Oh if I had more space  I really am

There is only the 2 of us and a small garden ,3 girls should be plenty ,I would have more but my OH although loving them is stronger than me .

He did say that in the spring we would try and extend their FR space ..So I said "Room for another couple then " he grinned and did not answer ... SILENCE IS GOLDEN

I'm the same. OH has very little to do with the girls, but he is adamant that two is enough. I keep talking in positive terms about the new chickens im planning on getting in the spring - he does the grinning thing and says nothing  He has sanctioned more omlet netting in the spring coz I want to increase the chicken area  Can't wait :!: Only trouble is, what do I choose :?:

Morning all,

It's all gone quite well so far.

Willow and Maisy had their spraying, dusting and worming last night and Dilys was very interested in their squacking, or rather, squeaking!, All three of the existing girls were at the pen chattering away, so we did let them all out for free ranging and there was very little fighting, Bubbles pecked both Willow and Maisy but left them to it after that.

All girls took themselves to bed into the one coup and we kept an eye every half an hour til midnight (we have an 8 week old so she keeps us awake!) and all snuggle up and later on the new two went in the nest boxes.

Divided the side garden from the main garden so Dilys & Co can see them and vice versa but so far so good, although I am expecting some hen pecking when we put them togther for a bit later on but for the moment Dilys and Penny are chasing the cat and cheekily coming inside the house because it's windy.

As I was typing, I was visited in the house by 3 girls, Penny, Willow and Maisy, somehow Maisy and Willow have got across to the main garden, so they've taken it upon themselves to start mingling!
