ali-s
I have just put a wanted post in 'Eglus and Cubes Wanted' for a set of wooden roosting bars which then got me thinking. My 6 and half year old Eglu is in perfect condition except for the roosting bars which had split length ways and the tacks had rusted from years of wear and tear and being scrubbed in hot water. Without the bars the Eglu can't be used. the poo tray isn't the full length of the Eglu and there is a gap between the pop hole and the start of the tray. The floor of the Eglu is mesh and not plastic like the later Mark 2 model. Omlet stopped selling replacement bars ages ago and never produced a plastic set. I was wondering if any one else who has a Mark 1 Eglu would like to see replacement bars made available? Maybe if there enough of us I could contact Omlet about this. They could do it as a limited edition, I would be keen to buy several sets as my eglu has plenty of years left in it. I read that Omlet has taken over Forsham Cottage Arks and that wooden houses will still be made. Omlet could give the roosting bar plans to the man who makes the wooden houses and he could make and sell the bars What do you think? LolaLayla
I do not know what your bars look like so maybe I am talking rubbish, but would a skilled joiner be able to make you a replacement? I seems a shame that you can't use your eglu if the body is still ok. However if Omlet could make them that would be even better
ali-s
OH could make me a set easily but I need to know the measurements and thickness of the wood. I removed the bars to try and repair them and now I can't find them. I think they might have gone in with the kindling They really were at the end of their lifespan they were falling apart. The Mark 1 bars came in different sections, from the back to the front of the Eglu :- one long single bar, 5 long bars joined together, 3 short bars joined together, and then either 3 or 4 ? short single bars. At the moment the Eglu is sitting forlornly in the chickens area with the run and convertor attached. I have plans to increase my flock. The Chickens I would like are different ages, POL which I will house in the empty green Mark 2 eglu and 10 weeks old which because of the age difference I would like to house in the Mark 1 until they are older. Then they would all live in the Mark 1 and next Spring Ducks in the mark 2 minus the roosting bars. Another idea I had was to ask if any one had upgraded to Mark 2 plastic bars and had a set of wooden bars lying around. That would give me the correct sized bars which OH could make into seperate sectioned bars I would like new bars though

Tweety
Have you asked Omlet if they could provide the measurements you need to make your own? Although they no longer make the replacement bars, they might still have the details you need.

I contacted Omlet about 3 weeks ago asking if I could get the details of the bars so OH could make me a set. The person I spoke to, Quinn I think said someone would phone or email me. I haven't heard anything .
