Peacock Question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Sorry I know it is the chicken section but didn't see a section that I felt it belonged in. My husband and I are selling our house and buying a new one and I always loved Peacocks and was wondering how much space do you need I always figured you needed acres and acres of land for them but there was a television show that a guy had one in is back garden which was only 20ft by 20ft. I also have Poland Chickens in a WIR. I have to cockerals so my noise level is already high figured that the Peacock would fit in just fine :) I figured someone on the forum might have them or had them at one point and might be able to give me some info. Thanks!

If someone has to move this post I understand sorry if I have it in the wrong place.

We had a peacock come and stay with us for a week, he escaped from a restaurant about a mile away. He was very noisy, and woke us all up on the first day he arrived. He did get on very well with the hens though, and was very friendly. I'm trying to convince my mum that we need to get some peacocks of our own, it's not going very well! haha!

They also need to be confined for a long time to imprint "home" on them.

Think we had about 8 at the farm, they were kept in a big run for a few months so they knew where they lived and then let out to Free Range. Eventually they all flew off, literally flew, and you'd sometimes see them wondering around the village and in trees for a few months after that.

Emma is right, don't think they like their own reflection in cars so can tend to attack + stratch them!
