newcountrygirl
I'm blushing before I even get started. Ziggy my Border terrier (3 a couple of weeks before Xmas) - Ever since we got her I have religiously marked in my diary when she has come into season. I calculated she was due at the end of August but nothing happened. About a week ago her "girly" bits started to become more prominent like she is in season but... the past couple of days she keeps clasping my leg and humping it. Also she keeps whining at me when we are sat together on the sofa. Normally she loves to cuddle up but this week every time she sits with me she is whining and sort of trying to dominate me by standing on my knees and clasping me with her front paws. What's going on? Anyone have any experience of this please?

newcountrygirl
I know what you mean - but she's such a "lady" normally. I keep thinking there must be something wrong with her.
snowberry
Perhaps because she's all 'properly' grown up now it's a sign of maturity (though you may question that!); it could be any number of things
lillybettybabs
Phantom pregnancy? I've never experienced one but they say it starts to happen a few months after the dog should have come into season.
Alis girls
My grans dog used to do that but he was a boy. Not really any advice - cold shower
Lewis
Could be a sign that she is coming into oestrus because they show behavioural changes - a bit like bulling in cows and lordosis in cats/pigs. Don't have much practical experience with dogs but have had a couple lectures on this kinda thing! A dogs estrous cycle normally lasts 6 months but can be every 3-9 months so it may be that she is ovulating late - in some animals it can be affected by sunlight levels, nutrition, male presence, stress etc... It could be just one of those things, or I could be barking up the complete wrong tree! Maybe ring the vet + speak to a receptionist if you're still worried in a couple days? The Dogmother
I agree, check with the vet if you're at all unsure. Is there any reason for not getting her spayed?
newcountrygirl
Thanks everyone. I think its just because she was late coming into season. Regards having her spayed - can't make up my mind - I just dont like the thought of her being cut into. I know it sound daft but there you go! The Dogmother
I'd get her spayed unless you plan to breed from her - they are much more content when neutered and less subject to 'female problems' and uterine cancer.
