surfer_chicken
I agree. I'm glad I've learnt how to dispatch chickens. (It was the best roast chicken I've ever eaten btw! ) It's opened my eyes to the meat industry, plus it's a useful skill for my egg birds as well. There were two occasions before where wish I had been able to dispatch my ill/injured hens rather than watching them suffer before they died If you know anyone who can show you how to cull birds then I would recommend it
whoopsie
I would like to learn - not sure how you go about asking though!
surfer_chicken
If you don't know anyone who raises chickens for meat, you can try having a look on google for a course in your area. I couldn't see one near you on omlet but I'm sure there will be one advertised elsewhere
whoopsie
Thanks Surfer_chicken I will look into it. There are a couple of farms around here so I might ask there too.
Space Chick
I'm lucky where I am in that I have a fabulous farmers market 40 mins away, I have got to know the farmers and can trace the farms.... I only buy meat where I can tell that it has been raised with the animals welfare at heart. I've been lucky to meet some lovely farmers and been able to get what I want, sharing morals and ethics. I'd go veggie before buying supermarket meat again.
The Dogmother
Me too. I was veggie for quite a while when I couldn't get decent meat.
