Hi Guys,

I'm after some advice from people that already own an Eglu. I'm trying to decide between a Classic or a Cube.

I have 3 Pekin Bantams, which are definitely more pets than anything else, but one of my chooks has an injured foot. Her foot was broken as a chick, which means she doesn't perch, but is quite able to get about at a waddle and she does flap about getting around.

I'd been thinking of a Cube because I wanted the extra space in case I wanted to get more chooks in future and the fact i can move it easily, but I'm not convinced she will be able to get up to the ramp.

Has anyone had a similar situation?

Thanks

I have both, but use the Cube every day and the classic for isolation/hatching. I have two elderly pekins among the flock using the cube, one of them has mobility issues and (at a guess) has arthritis; she seems to manage it all just fine.

I find the cube much easier to clean as it's higher up.

Where are you located? If you look at the Visit an Eglu owner section you may find that someone near you will be happy for you to see their set-up to help you make your choice. I recently had a family out to look at mine, they wanted to see how easy it was to clean and asked if they could clean it out for me... needless to say, I was delighted :D

Thanks The Dogmother, that's good news as the Cube was my preference. Do you use anything to help your hens reach the ramp, or just leave it to them?

I'm in Lincolnshire and I'll definitely look to see if there is someone near by to visit. I've got a coop i bought as a self assemble kit from a garden store and I've got to admit the quality, whilst it looks good, isn't great. I've only had it 6-8 months and already had to repair it 3 times. I've got to admit the Cube looks much better for maintaining.

Thanks again :)
