Plum
Hi, can anyone tell me which curtain weights to buy, they from 25g to 200g or tape. Not used them before this is the fabric link After watching Kirstie's home made home feel I should make the effort
Snowy
It depends on the weight of fabric and size of curtains Plum. Full length, lined, heavyweight fabric will need the largest, whereas lightweight fabric and short curtains will be better with the lighter ones. I've used the tape in the past (little lead weights in a string like teensy sausages). I used it on short but heavy, lined curtains and it wasn't quite enough. Hope this helps! Plum
Thanks Snowy, I'll buy too much then if its not enough I'll put another string in.
bigmommasally
I remember my mum use to use coins as weights in curtains when she made them.
Plum
Ah a use for all those pennies the boys left behind in a big kilner jar. Can you remember how she did it?
Snowy
Thats a good idea! Can't remember how the normal lead weights come - are they au naturel or they already in little fabric pockets? If not, you may need to stitch them into little envelopes so they can be stitched into place so they don't move.

No can't remember really, I thought she just popped them in the hem, but just had a little google and it seems that "penny" weights can be bought covered and are sewn on each corner. http://www.merrick-day.com/acatalog/Merrick___Day_Lead_Weights_48.html#aLPW I'm seeing mum tomorrow so I'll ask her and see what she remembers. The Dogmother
Ditto to Snowy's post. I have used coins on heavy, long curtains before now. I also used to use the light, tape weights in the hems of wedding dresses when I used to design and make them many years ago; they keep it hanging properly and prevent any embarrassing incidents if it's a windy day
Plum
Wow Claire you designed and made wedding dresses, how wonderful. Wouldn't you rather be doing that now
The Dogmother
It was just a hobby and I really enjoyed it but I don't think I was good enough to make a living out of it - I used to do a lot of dressmaking in those days and really enjoyed it. The wedding dresses started off with my sister's and went on from that .....
