Hello,

 

I like the sound of these stable mats.

 

I have a WIR on a good depth of gravel, but I am thinking if putting some of this matting on top of the gravel and then abiose or chips n top, that way they can have a good scratch without sending gravel all over the place!

 

I have looked on eBay and there are several different ones, with pricing to match!

 

Where did you buy yours?

I have quite a few country stores to choose from around here. I probably would have researched a bit more for the best deal off the net but i just wanted to get them last weekend.

Glad I haven't upset anyone! I have just been out cleaning up the run for winter and thank goodness I do have the porous ones because we have had a visit from Mr Mole and the run floor is all hilly now! I got mine from e-bay in the end. I think I paid about £25 each but could have been a bit more. I got three in the end so I could overlap them and have a bit of overhang around the edges. I will post some pictures later of before, during and after the cleanup. Having a cup of tea now before I start all the wet jobs.

As promised here are some pictures of the stable mats on the bottom of the run

After the bark/wood chipings had been raked out

 

 

Water on the mats after the cube had been washed

 

 

20 minutes later and the water has almost drained away. 10 minutes after that there was no water.

 

 

After the mats had a bit of a scrub I replaced the bark with wood chips and auboise.

 

 

All finished!

 

 

Thanks Sammiboo for the inspiration to get out and get on on with the big clean before any really bad weather.

Samiboo, I noticed you used aubiose instead of newspaper in your poop trays. Can I ask why? I currently use newspaper which I a) put the poop into the compost bin & b) newspaper goes into the normal bin. If I used all aubiose I don't think our compost bin would cope with it...or rather hubby would winge & I like a quiet life!!

 

Sorry probably sound a strange question just getting an idea on how others have their set up.

I use Aubiose in the poo trays (and nest box) it dries up the poo and composts easily. When my composters are all full I just bag it up and either give it to a friend with a lottie, or Freecycle it.

The aubiose and chicken poo mix should make a better compost than just the chicken poo

Aubiose in the trays and the nest box here - straight into the compost bin once a week.
