Can I fill the run up with leaves ?

Recommended Posts

I am surrounded by everyone else's trees and therefore am about to get loads of leaves. Ususally I just rake them up and put them in their mud pit, but I thought they might have more fun with them in their run - especially as they are inside for longer now.

I will have oak, beech, chestnut and silver birch leaves as well as ornamental cherry - are these all ok for the girls to have ?

I was hoping there will be lots of bugs on the leaves for them, but they do seem to like eating some of them too

Can I just keep chucking them in or will everything start to get a bit yucky ?

Thanks x

It wouldn't hurt to try it! They'd probably shred it up before it got yucky. I read on another forum about a guy who used pine straw in his run to keep the smell down. He said it broke up so he never had to rake it out. I tried it and it was true. Some of it got tossed outside the run and the rest seemed to break down and get mixed in with the soil.

I have just finished raking up todays leaves and my girls must think it's their birthday.

They are having a whale of a time. And they make so much noise with their feet. They are playing nicely and looking for anything edible - especially as I threw some Garvo treats on top, but I must admit even I found the treats difficult to see. That will keep them busy :D

I wish I'd thought of it before
