Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

I've just booked a holiday that has been years in the planning-ever since my daughter was quite young I told her 'one day' we would go shopping in new York.. My mum died a couple of years ago and I was left a small amount of money and wanted to get something to keep-so I got my eglu, walk in run and chickens but didn't know what to do with the rest of the money...then I remembered,I talked to my partner, he agreed it'd be a great memory for me and kezia and he also said he'd like to join us..we faffed around with budgets and realised the 3 of us could stay somewhere really special or we could spend the same money and invite along her boyfriend-the trip will be for her 21st present so she got to choose, luxury or love..she chose love! I've just booked 7 nights right near central park for 4 of us next June...now to save up the spending money!

We have been twice and absolutely loved it despite not being 'city' people

 

One thing to note is if you are going in the winter it is freezing there and the wind is very bitter, we were colder in NY than in Lapland as we just were not prepared for it

Have a fantastic time! Like Redwing said, New York is the expception when it comes to city holidays. What a 21st!

Thanks for the replies!! We usually have a holiday each summer toAmsterdam so we probably are city people,hope so anyway!

We don't go til June so the weather should be warm- were originally goingto go in august but apparently the humidity is pretty bad then...more time to get ridiculously excited!

You will absolutely love it! Going in June - you can have some really hot weather! You may also witness some truly amazing thunder storms - you'll never have seen lightning like it.

The malls are fantastic, but so are some of the museums. I've never forgot an Egyptian exhibition at the Metropolitan with real mummies - very very gruesome, but really good.

Central park is really special - peace & greenery surrounded by Sky s"Ooops, word censored!"ers & chaos! There's a Swiss lodge in Central park which was lovely.

I remember roller skating in Central Park.

What amazed me too was all the trainers you see. People in suits wearing trainers! Also how happy everyone is - even the toilet cleaner people sing! Lovely!

Everyone says avoid The Bronx after dark, but it's actually Brooklyn you want to avoid! Scary!

Lots of different cultures in New York City - which you'll see in all the brilliant eating places. Some beautiful Jewish eating places. Mmm mm mmmmm! Be prepared for the portion sizes!!! You'll definitely come back heavier, but you'll love every minute of it.

I was 50 last year and my brother and sister pooled resources and Air Miles and sent me, my then 18 and 16 year old nieces to New York for 5 days in October as we ALL had special birthdays.

 

It was sunny and warm (no Jackets Required ) and we had a FANTASTIC time. It was soooooooooo generous of them and it was what I'd always wanted to do. I'll never, never, ever forget it and have a closer relationship with my nieces as a result.

I am not sure why, because I am not a city person at all, but I have always wanted to go to New York, one day maybe. A few years before my next big birthday, I will file it away until then.

We are trying to think of a special holiday that we will all enjoy for the end of June next year when our older two children will have finished their GCSE's & A levels. most of us fancy a cruise, but DS has said no way
