Murdo
Our fantastic German Shepherd died two weeks ago. He was much missed and we couldn't hope to find a replacement for such a wonderful family dog. We thought we'd probably start looking in the spring so I told the Chief Assistant to the Managing Director that perhaps we could consider a kitten (since I've caught 10 mice in the last month, this didn't seem completely daft at the time) We contacted the GSD breeder for advice and as luck would have it they had one of two pups left that they were unsure whether to bring on themselves or sell, and very generously decided that our e-mail had made the decision for them. So we arranged to collect the dog this weekend. Then on Wednesday someone at the Managing Director's work jokingly asked if anybody wanted two kittens which she'd had to recover from the drunken owner. So here I am sitting in the kitchen with two children, one ten week old puppy, and two four month old kittens. Having just dropped the aquarium in the sink, (freeing the fish, (in the panic to stop them going down the plug hole waking the puppy, (who then puddled on the floor) and left the kitchen door open while I dashed to the water butt for more water for the fish, so we had to hunt for the kittens. ))) . And the dog''s now been sick on the floor. Can I go back to work now please ? And we haven't even introduced the puppy to the chickens yet. But if I can persuade the Managing Director to learn how to put pictures in the gallery there should be some very cute pictures before the end of the week. Nicola H
Murdo it sounds like great fun at your house, I love the idea of having a puppy and lots of lovely kittens but in reality I think work would be a good place to be............. Hope things get better at least you will have plenty to do cleaning up after the new pets for the next few months, wouldn't do to get bored and have the time to sit down and read the Sunday papers they are all printing rubbish at the moment, you could always use them to line the Eglu poo tray and the kitchen floor..... Mrs Frugal
Oh Murdo! It never rains in your house, does it!! ! Hope all is sorted out now and the kittens haven't eaten the fish !
Popcorn
I can see it now. It's going to be similar to the song... I know an old woman who swallowed a fly, I don't know why she swallowed the fly. Perhaps she'll die. I know an old cat who swallowed a fish, she swallowed the other cat to catch the fish, she swallowed the dog to catch the cat, and swallowed the owner to......... Karen & co.
Well, You've made my day! sounds like we're not the only family who slides from one chaotic moment to the next, I must get my very sensible friends to read your post. Thanks for making our house feel "normal"!! Hope you got everything sorted, Karen
SarahJo
Well done Murdo .. when our dog died, in her sleep very suddenly .... ... I decided to get chooks as we could not possibly replace such a faithful pooch. Only have one fish and 3 hens now though ... but good for you ..... glad to hear there are other animal lovers out there. Truth be known ..... I would have a houseful too if OH had not intervened at certain points.

The Dogmother
Me too Mel; my sensible streak rears it's head every now and then, stopping me from getting any more animals. Loevly kittens in our pet shop on Saturday, luckily they are gone now!
Mel (& Paul)
You see, that's my problem. I dont have a sensible head of my own, have to rely on Pauls. Unfortunately my heart beat his head up and that's why our house is on the market (no takers yet ) and we intend on increasing our mortgage by some huge amount, just so we can have more animals (after all this rain this week I am thinking an Ark may be better )
The Dogmother
Just realised that you're off to Omlet HQ today - have fun and let me know how you get on. I am working today (or so rumour has it), but I should have arranged to meet up with you for lunch, you're only about 5 miles away when you're at Omlet HQ! Mel (& Paul)
I'm back from Omlet now. The girls were very friendly, but the chaps kept on looking the other way and none of them seemed to want to stand up or turn their backs on me. Mmmmm. I wonder why that could be
The Dogmother
They always seem to be very busy when I go there too. Rosie thought that the chooks outside were more entertaining!
Mel (& Paul)
She'll soon grow out of that Claire and you will have a rival vying for the attention of Simon and the boys
