Brand new 'V' second hand Eglu

Recommended Posts

Apart from the obvious...funds!! What are the benefits of buying a new Eglu?

I wouldn't buy a second hand wooden coop, mainly due to nasties in crevasses, however due to the construction & materials of the Omlet range I am considering buying either a go or classic second hand.

What I need it for is to put my ladies in when I introduce new girlies. My thoughts are when that process is finished I will store the run but put the classic/go in the WIR just incase anyone gets fed up in the cube and wants to sleep in the spare room!!:lol:

Having had a look around the difference between second hand & new is about £110.00 - £150.00 :shock: & realistically I would only really need it for introductions which would be once a year or every other year!

What do you think? :D

I wanted an (green eglu) for the very same reasons as yourself. I kept my eye out for one within 20 miles of my home but they were going for almost as much as a new one. Omlet were offering £50 off !gogreen! last year which made it about the same price as a second hand (green eglu) so I bought a new !gogreen! with a full gaurantee. Although I prefere the way (green eglu) are made it has worked out well for my girls.

Me too. I've got a (cube purple) and wanted a (pink eglu) as a hospital/introduction wing. I couldn't afford a new one so was keeping an eye out for a second hand one. They don't come on the market very often up here so when there was a chance of getting a !gored! I went for it. It was only 4 months old, so practically new, and came with some link a board and others extras. It was a bargain price of £200!

I didn't think I would use it very often either but it's been used as a hospital ever since I got it home.

Omlet are selling on Ebay now and sometimes they have reconditioned or returned eglus on there, it's worth checking them out.

Thanks for the responses. I had not thought of the hospital aspect...maybe it would be used more often (hope not) :(:!:

The guarantee is definitely something I should think about but already having a cube I have a hugh confidence in them already.

Cost is the main thing as I need to 'scratch' money together for my WIR. I know I'm going to need one as I'm hopefully going to get some ex-bats when it's done and it just seems the easiest/less stress way of doing it. (Anything for an easy life):lol:

Just not sure if I should just bite the bullet & get new or wait for a nice second hand one. If I'm honest I guess I'm just getting impatient and want everything yesterday!! :?:lol::lol:

I was going to say keep an eye on ebay too as Omlet are now selling their recons on there.

They are selling a recon Go atm with 1 day to go, currently at £129, **clicky**

They're the ones that have been to shows for a couple days (although not atm because they haven't been to any shows) or that customers have bought and returned before the 30 day guarantee so they are practically new! :D

Sometimes you'll wait less time for a secondhand one as you can go and get it straight away (if if on ebay when the auction ends) so you save time by not waiting for Omlet to deliver and also save the delivery costs (but use petrol..)

Someone on here bought a cube that was riddled with red mite, I have also had red mite in 2 of my 3 Eglus so you need to be careful when buying secondhand still even though its not wood. I would actually be happier to buy a secondhand wooden coop as the construction of the Eglu makes some parts very difficult to access for treatment.

Thanks all.

Thanks to a top tip have just bought a purple classic from the market place for a bargain price of £200.00 :dance::dance::dance:

Once I have collected it it will be empty for a while so any egg cycle will run it's course.:dance::dance::dance:

BIG THANK YOU to 'ben poppy grace' for looking out for me :D:D:D:D
