[I need more chickens]

Hi, I was just wondering how flighty Columbines are and how well suited they will be in a WIR (about 3x3m)?

I have two Columbines in a WIR, they were both very flighty until they came into lay. They aren't flighty anymore but they are skittish and don't like being handled.

 

However, the gorgeous green eggs make up for their rather antisocial personalities

mine was an escape artist at the place I got her from so they'ed had to clip her wing but she settled down once she started to lay she's one of my friendlier girls very laid back nearly always first for treats if my CLB or CLBX don't get there first she can be a bit dim at times but I've never regretted buying her eveb through she dosen't kay a blue or green egg

My Columbine is a bottom of the pecking order, is shy and not at all sociable with humans and hates being handled (makes such a fuss!). However she is a lovely lady laying lovely and has a beautiful sheen to her feathers in the sunlight.

I had one who was very friendly and cheeky and tried (unsuccessfully!) to escape on a couple of occasions . She was very cute with her little topknot though and laid lovely green eggs .

My Columbine is very unfriendly; I can't handle her, bullies the ex-batts when they all FR together but is gorgeous girl with a lovely quiff and beautiful blue eggs.

 

I have to say that I've had the ex-batts for the lest amount of time but I do love their cheeky personalities - no blue eggs though

Couldn't agree more, I have had particular breeds on the recommendation of others, only to find that their nature is completely different than described. For example my Ancona was supposed to be difficult to handle, but she was the one that jumped into my arms. I have 4 cream legbars, all very different.

My Columbine is one of the 20 percent that doesn't lay blue eggs (s***s law I got that one), but she is friendly and easy to pick up and has never been flighty.

Another one here who has a friendly columbine. She's top hen these days and a very confident bird (but doesn't bully). She's very friendly - doesn't particularly like being picked up, but will happily climb all over you if you have corn, mealworms etc.

OOh, decisions, decisions!! Thanks everyone. I think its prob best checking them out at the local supplier and seeing how friendly/flighty they are there...and whether we could catch one!
