snowberry
You're doing a grand job caring for her; if she didn't have you then she may well not be here. I'm sure she gives you boundless love & affection back. Mine passed on a few months ago & it's still hard.

WitchHazel
HI Emma Sorry to hear that your lovely old girl is having toiletting problems. It might be worth taking her to the vets for a checkup. When our old girl started doing this, it turned out she had a urinary infection similar to cystitis, and it is very common in older female cats. She was on some medication which really helped. As her arthritis got worse, we gave her a litter tray, and she was clean until the day she died (many years later). Hugs to you and to her. Seagazer
Ah bless her, it is hard when an animal gets older. My old dog became incontinent as she aged but we had some brilliant medicine from the vet that more or less cured it. It might be an idea to take her for a check up. A litter tray sounds like a good idea too. I have a 13 year old cat, which I know isn't ancient, but she's on thyroid medication and at times seems to be completely mad and skittish. She stands in front of the door as if she wants to go out, you open the door for her and she jumps back and runs off. A minute later and shes back and you open the door and she goes out. She does this for her food as well. She is due for another blood test, I think perhaps the tablets are not working properly. She is the oldest cat I've ever owned so its all new to me.
