Damp in the Cube nest box?

Recommended Posts

I'm puzzled! I'm fairly sure that all of my lot pile in to the nest box at night, doesn't worry me apart from the fact that the "floor" of the nest box seems to get very wet ... I put a layer of newspaper in there first, topped with a good thick layer of Rapasorb bedding (chopped rape straw). It was so wet in the nest box yesterday that the layer of newspaper had actually frozen to the Cube!

The question is, is this condensation and if so, is there anything I can do about it? I'm as sure as I can be that the Cube itself doesn't leak as it was empty over Christmas and was completely dry when I checked it.

PS I should also add that I've recently started to block the slot/vent at the bottom of the nest box, but that hasn't made any difference.

I had this problem in mine. You need to take the offending side panel off and reattach it a bit tighter. Gives you a good reason to have a clean out round the brackets underneath, mine had all old bits of bedding squashed between the grey base/front and the coloured side panel. It's only 2 screws to undo once you've slid the lid off, 5 mins to tweak it (well unless you drop the bolts, then it takes a fair bit longer).

Hi, my poop trays are linned with newspaper and if it is warmer weather there tends to be alot of wetness in the trays. i know its not rain water as the cube is under cover. Also when i leave the cube door open at night it doesnt get wet. i guess when the girls are all together they create a fair bit of heat and create the dampness! mine get turfed out of the nest box at night time so dont sleep in there! Hope this helps. :)

I had a similar problem with mine, Omlet supplied me with an extreme weather kit that they now put on all the Cubes.

Aah maybe this will solve my problem. After having taken my cube to bits and reassembled it, it made no difference the cube was still really wet :-( Eventually I decided I would have to move the cube indoors. They are now toasty warm and dry inside a stable. It's a shame though as now they can not range around the paddock behind the electric net.

What is the kit like llb and was it FOC.
