craftyhunnypie
Just wondered if there were any spinners on the forum? Have enquired about joining the local spinning, weaving & dying guild & hoping soon to buy my 1st wheel. Woohoo! Any tips about what wheel? Definitely want an Ashford I think, but whether to go for the classic, the Joy, the traveller or the kiwi - I'm not sure. I like the look of the classic & the traveller, but not sure if they will be as easy to use as the kiwi says. Thanks Emma.x
Lesley
I do, but so far only small amounts and I use a drop spindle. When I win the Lottery I'm after the Ashford Joy but I'd like to speak to someone who's used one first. Your local group should have a good mix of wheels and should be able to advise. I was a member of the Stratford Guild about 30 years ago but only used a spindle then as well.
craftyhunnypie
Have been given a contact through the Guild - hoping to go & see an Ashford Traditional wheel this week that is for sale through the Guild. I've got a bottom whorl spindle & like that - so want to now move onto a wheel. The next thing I'll be wanting is a traditional spinning chair! Shhhh! The Dogmother
I think that HENthusiatic was spinning their own alpaca wool, try PMing her.
craftyhunnypie
Picking up the Ashford Wheel & bits & bobs tomorrow afternoon. Woohoo! It's a traditional. Have wanted this wheel for so long! It is going to be soooo pampered & oogled at when I get it home. Got some nice roving tops in - so hoping to give it a whirl tomorrow night! Will be nice going the Guild with my wheel. Will have to PM Henthuthiastic - wasn't it her that had the two baby Alpacas born last year? Will post photo of my wheel when it's in situ! craftyhunnypie
What fibres do you find best to spin? I've got some Jacobs fleece, some Blue faced Leicester & some gorgeous coloured Merino Silk tops, along with some dyed plain Merino tops. There is also some Angora on its way to me.
