cd8jbr
Funky the chicken was fine on Friday - the weather was lovely so they all had a good scratch about in the garden but on Saturday I had some guys in to lop one of the trees so there was a lot of Funky was very quiet, standing hunched up, head drawn in, with her feathers fluffed up looking totally miserable. I put her indoors where it was warmer and quieter and let them all out when they had gone but she wasn't too bothered and although she did eat some grass she was much quieter than usual (she's a real live wire) and ended up standing hunched up and miserable. I thought I'd see how she was today as the vet has an emergency surgery and when the others got up for their grub she stayed in the eglu althogh she did get up later. She didn't seem too bothered about the food but wasn't standing hunched up so before the rain set in I let them out and she seemed happier but not herself at all so I took her to the vet. She was thoroughly examined (inside and out) and there was no sign of anything. She was much perkier at the vets than she had been since Friday....but they say that's not unusual and doesn't mean much. They recommended I keep an eye on her and take her back when they will give her an anti biotic if she needs it but don't want to treat unnecessarily as it's not good for them. Since she came back she's been indoors, I gave her a drink and she was straight in there - and has been eating a bit. I gave her a grape which went down very well too. I will put her back in the run with the others before bed time but till then is it a good idea to keep her in the warm? She's an ex-batt who has been out since October and is such a lovely chicken person. She's a bit naughty when she gets a chance (loves to get in the house) and I hate to see her looking under the weather. I've ordered some Flubenvet so will worm them all as soon as it arrives but is there anything else I can do other than watch and wait? Any advice greatly appreciated. I've only had my birds since October and feel very much a novice in chicken matters. I put her back in the run at about 4pm and she was quite keen to be among her friends. I left her to it and went back a short while ago with a snack for them (a few meal worms and grapes) - she was the first to put her beak into it and seems a bit brighter so hopefully a day indoors in the warm has made her feel better. We'll see tomorrow. I love my chooks and reall want the best for them but sometimes just feel so helpless. Thanks, Jill
