BeckyBoo
I wondered if I should give ours some poultry spice as it's supposed to be a general tonic (I think?) After their week of house moves and new inmates I didn't know wether a pick-me-up might be in order? So what do you think and in any case, I got it from Omlet it says "one teaspoonful in the usual wet or dry mash" Mine have pellets? Egluntyne
I stir it into the pellets....but am inclined to be a bit heavy handed so I guess they get more like a desertspoonfull to a full "Grub" It smells rather nice....a bit like a mild curry powder. BeckyBoo
Thanks Egluntine, sorry to be a pain, how often do you feed it to them, and do you think it's a good idea as they've just got here? Mrs B
Guest
I've heard from another long-term hen owner that she disolves it into her hens drinking water. Haven't had mine long enough to comment on whether that's okay? Someone more experienced might comment.....
Mel (& Paul)
Our girls have it and probably most of the time. They have pelletts and so we scoop up some pellets, sprinkle a bit on the scoop of food and then pour into the feeder so it kind of permeates (sp?) down through the food. chelsea
our girls also have it all the time. Every time i fill the grub the pellets and grit gets a swirl around with the poultry spice, I have never measured exactly how much I give them....a few pinch fulls and its never done them any harm. Popcorn
Same here. Everytime I fill up the feeder they get two teaspoons of poultry spice. I can really see a difference in how well they look. They also get a teaspoon of Poultry Drink in their water everytime too.

Hen Watch
I put a 1/4 of a teaspoon (for my 4 hens) into their treats bowl but not every day. Only when they have cooked rice or pasta as it seems to stick to that. The man I bought the poultry spice from suggested putting a little oil in with their pellets and the spice will stick to it. But I haven't tried that because I can't remember what type of oil he suggested.
xScrunchee
The man I bought the poultry spice from suggested putting a little oil in with their pellets and the spice will stick to it. But I haven't tried that because I can't remember what type of oil he suggested. This is what I do to make the garlic powder stick to their pellets. I just use a small amount of vegetable oil. As for poultry spice-I give it to my girls 2 or 3 times a week in with their treats.

Rhapsody
I use soya oil from horse shop to mix in and vit powder will stick to food. You can get 20 litres of Dodsonand Horrell's for £
