lillybettybabs
Does anyone do this or has tried it? I'm thinking of giving it a go with "He who never tires".
Chucky Mama
I have never done it but I believe it is quite popular in Wiltshire. There is one that crosses Salisbury Plain as part of the neolithic marathon for Wiltshire Wildlife every May. I prefer to walk it with my pooch
The Dogmother
Good luck to you Karen I've run with my dogs before and they do it really well but I'm getting a bit dodgy in the knees these days so am playing it safe now. Rosie has recently started running but doesn't want to take the loons for some strange reason Could you not pay the boys to take Dylan for walkies? lillybettybabs
we're going to give it a go tomorrow, I love cross-country running so we'll head up into the woods. I will be avoiding water as being strapped to a water loving lab could be tricky.
Lavenders_Blue
I suppose it all depends on how much you enjoy running! It sounds like my idea of hell to be honest but if you enjoy running and you have a dog that you think will take to it then why not give it a go! lillybettybabs
I don't like pavement running but cross-country isn't as bad. Dylan will out run me twice over!
The Dogmother
I have visions of the big lad pulling you over and dragging you through mud face-down... I hope he doesn't. I just let my two run in huge circles and wear themselves out.
lillybettybabs
I could cheat and where some of those shoes with wheels built in.
The Dogmother
*snorts* that image had me laughing. Howzabout I bring my two hounds and Rosie over and we pay the teens to run the dogs while we sit around in the sun and have tea and cake... that sounds like my idea of a fitness regime

lillybettybabs
I could cheat and where some of those shoes with wheels built in. You mean rollerskates?! Trainer looking thing children wear, I can't remember the name. Anyway the first route is planned just waiting for my shoulder to calm down. i might live on the wild side and attach a springer. The Dogmother
Are they called Wheelies? Those things that they banned frrom the shopping centre in town as the kids kept getting in the way Blimey K that's really wild - do you think you'll end up in one piece? Next you'll be telling me that OH is going with you....

pips_pekins
There's a Canix group that meet up where I walk our stinky. One person has two dogs on her harness but most others have just one. The dogs seem to really enjoy it but not so sure about some of the owners . I'll stick to walking.
lillybettybabs
We're up for anything, He'd go sky diving if he could (extreme sports dog). He's 7 now but you wouldn't think it- he has more energy and stamina than any of our youngster, he preserves it until he really needs it. I often wondered about doing a sponsored trek with him. Lavenders_Blue
I have a theory about trying to wear energetic dogs out with lots of exercise - as far as I can tell they just get fitter and fitter and want even more exercise Sometimes I wonder if my brother and sister in law who have a very overweight dog have the right idea... Maybe if I fattened Tango up she might slow down a bit! (I don't mean that by the way, I can't bear to see fat dogs). Perhaps you could take Dylan to the gym with you and stick him on the treadmill! The Dogmother
There's a certain amount of truth in that - while some dogs/breeds naturally have more stamina than others, they do tend to adjust... but then you (obviously) need to adjust their food accordingly. While labs have much more stamina, lurchers are content with a mad race around, then they sleep for the rest of the day.... 30mph couch potatoes A poster on a lurcher forum i frequent was lamenting that she had to give her lurcher 2 hour walks twice a day as 'he has too much energy', part of the problem was that he was being fed on Bakers, which is known for making dogs hyper. But she was just walking and walking him and building up his stamina/expectations.... he'd have been happy with half an hour of walk and half an hour of fast running. I think she was used to other types TBH.
Lavenders_Blue
Yes I've heard that about Bakers 2x 2hr walks though, that's pretty hyper! I suppose it has the same effect as E numbers in kids? Edited March 27, 2012 by Guest
The Dogmother
Yes, it has lots of colourings, so a bit like feeding blue smarties and cola to children lots of fillers too, so lots of multi-coloured poo
Lavenders_Blue
Ugh, there's a dog round here who leaves a large deposit of odd-coloured poo every morning Owner apparently doesn't see the need to pick it up despite being practically next to the poo bin That'll probably be what it is being fed then. (Sorry for de-railing your thread LBB with such a revolting topic).
lillybettybabs
Oh now that's a topic i could go on about allllll day! The amount of fillers put into animals dried feed is horrendous, BARF can get a little fiddly but it's worth it.
Lavenders_Blue
I'm slowly getting there with raw feeding. Freezer space is the main issue at the moment. Just got to get the garage cleared a bit more so I can get a dog freezer in there But for the time being Tango is on one meal raw and one meal high quality kibble a day and looking great on it. Given the choice though she does prefer her food to have a pulse
Snowy
I wouldn't mind being attached to Candy - she loves to amble along, with just the occasional burst of speed If you attached me to Ruby all you'd see would be my feet sticking out of a hedge
lillybettybabs
We had a very short go tonight, He was bounding along side enjoying having mum to himself. Only once slight incident involving me and a rather large concealed log, he did stop and give me a big sloppy kiss to make it better.
