sim
This past week my girls have been pecking at our fences. At first I thought they were eating ants, but I can't see any insects at all on the fence. They have plenty of food and water. The fences are rotting, but they always were! Anyone else's chooks doing this? Or just my three fruitcakes?
jackian
i have not had this problem but have got a log for them to climb on and that has been pecked .. Although we can't see bugs I reckon they get deeper in ...It only needs one and by the time you see them doing it they have gobbled it up . sim
Maybe they're those tiny little aphid things. Whatever they are, the chooks love pecking them! Bit afraid the neighbours will complain! They sound like woodpeckers.

AlisonH
One of ours pecks the brickwall outside the back door! It's usually when it's hot and I can only assume there's insects there in the warmth.

Cat tails
It might be boredom. What else do they have in their run? Some logs, perches etc?
