BuryFCA1
Had 4 hens for 3 weeks now. They are well fed, well watered and happy (tails up). They are perching at night and are well loved and cared for . The farmer said they were POL but my goodness why wont they just lay some EGGS? Eggasperated
- Great title for a thread! Unfortunately POL sometimes means "I might lay an egg in the next few months (if I feel like it)"
Cheeky Chooky
Don't worry, they'll get on with it when they're ready
snaps
Without wanting to depress you, we have a Bluebelle bought at the very beginning of November as POL who still hasn't produced a thing. Nine months old and counting! Is this a record? Our other two (not Bluebelles) lay beautifully and have done since February.
AlisonH
We were told ours were POL but they still didn't lay for a good 6-8 weeks. But they haven't stopped since! Even over the winter we had eggs most days. Good things come to those who wait!!
Purplemaniacs
My hybrids have all laid regularly over their first winter but only the odd egg during subsequent winters. I think hens that are sold as POL can vary greatly in age. Chrissie
Duncan08
I got a POL Araucana and a Vorwerk in January, the Araucana has now been laying a while but Marigold, the Vorwerk hasn't joined in yet. I suspect she was very young when we got her, no comb and absolutley light as a feather. She now has a lovely red comb and face, and crouches when you approach her, but no egg yet She is showing all the signs so hopefully just a matter of time now. When they start to come into lay, they should have lovely red combs and if you can see any face, that should be red too. When you go up to them they may crouch, but it is still no guarantee that the elusive egg is on its way You will just have to stay patient I am afraid - it is great when you get your first one though
